PHP Online Course Requirements

Hardware and Software You'll Need

In the first lesson you will install a PHP and MySQL development environment on your personal computer. You will follow step-by-step instructions on how to install the WAMP5 software that will provide your PHP and MySQL development environment. This is not a difficult thing to do. If you have trouble, then your online instructor is available through the online PHP course Web site and he will help you with the process.

You will download the WAMP5 software from a link provided by the instructor. The WAMP5 PHP and MySQL development environment is free, it will not cost you a cent. All course material is provided online. The lessons can be printed-out and saved for future reference.

You will need a personal computer with one of the following operating systems:
  • Windows NT
  • Windows 2000,
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
Note: WAMP5 does not support either Windows 98 or Windows Me.

You will also need the following on your computer:
  • Internet access
  • e-mail
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web browser
  • Adobe Flash and PDF plug-ins (two free and simple downloads)
  • A printer is highly recommended so you can print a hard copy of your lessons.
Note: Macintosh users will not be able to use the WAMP5 software, and must provide their own PHP and MySQL development environment.

Note: Prior HTML coding experience is helpful, but not required.
